Your chances of success are far lower than established companies so you need to prospect a LOT more and be ready take failure on the chin. No one is better at handling rejection and at building sales momentum than an experienced inside sales team.
The more important thing is it gives me confidence in selling. I actually look forward to cold calling now. It's because I now have testaments and a partner who is really invested with me. He knows I'll watch-out for him when he stumbles or has a rough day and vise a versa. Having such support is huge for a field sales rep no matter how experienced you are.
